G-Rex® Culture Plates
Cell culture oxygenation via a basal gas exchange membrane
G-Rex® culture plates are used to obtain 40X – 80X expansion of non-adherent cells without changing media which is an ideal way for growing high numbers of T-Cells, NK-Cells or hybridomas. How does it work?
After inoculation, cells will gravitate downwards and settle above the G-Rex® gas exchange membrane. This innovative culture oxygenation system circumvents the usual restriction on media height, meaning that cells can multiply uninterrupted for several days in a large volume of media. A dense layer of cells is obtained at the base of each well which makes it easy to harvest cells in a small final volume. The G-Rex 24-w plate well volume is 7ml/well, the G-Rex 6-w plate well volume is 35ml/well and each well of the 6M version has 100ml volume.

Gas permeable base membrane
A gas-permeable silicone membrane at the base of each well ensures cells remain well oxygenated and expand continuously. This means minimal user intervention is required without the need for frequent media change (explanatory PDF). For example : inoculate G-Rex® 6 with 5e6 cells and achieve over 100X cell expansion in 7 to 10 days with only one media change.

No passaging required
G-Rex® culture plates enable the expansion of non-adherent cells to very high numbers without the need for passaging. Scalable method to larger volumes, please enquire.
T-Cells, NK Cells, HSC
G-Rex® 6M (100ml well volume) is used for expansion of T-Cells, NK-Cells etc with no need for a medium change. G-Rex® 6M plates are used in cell and gene-modified cell research and manufacturing process development. The device allows for activation, transduction, and expansion. The protocols developed with G-Rex® 6M directly scale up to clinical doses in larger G-Rex® bioreactors.
Hybridoma development
Antibody developers use G-Rex® 6 and 24 well plates as a convenient way to make small amounts of mAb and compare hybridoma clones.

We tried two rat mAbs, #IBL-11 (against an undefined mouse lymphoid stromal marker) and #IBL-12 against mouse MARCO antigen, both developed in our lab. Considering the speed for achieving several mgs of each, I am very satisfied with the performance of G-rex, and the ease of operation.
We could clearly collect and re-initiate the growth by removing weekly (a) 30 ml of supernatant, adding fresh, and (b) three days later collecting 32 ml (out of 35 total) of another spent medium with cells (so we had twice-a-week SN harvest) for three weeks.
I have just performed our experiments and I have to inform you that I’ve obtained very good amounts of antibodies from the G-Rex6. Since, I got a much larger amount from this than from my normal protocol I couldn’t quantify it yet and I will have to dilute it next time. For now we would like to get 20 EZ flasks and 6 G-Rex6 well plates since we are starting a new project for antibody production. We would like to implement these production systems right away.
